Emma L. Bates


Emma Lee Snider Bates, 93, Corydon, died Wednesday, Feb. 24, 2016.
Born Oct. 25, 1922, in Jeffersonville, she was the daughter of the late Elmer and Louva Snider.
She was a welder at Jeffboat during World War II, a seamstress and an outreach worker for Community Action Agency in Harrison County and involved in school and community programs.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 56 years, Cova Bates Sr.; a grandson, Stewart Bates; a great-granddaughter, Kaelyn Windell; a great-grandson, Abel Arana; a son-in-law, Roger Berry; five brothers Chester, Forrest, Carl, Glenn (Chub) and Jim Snider; and a sister Lillie Margaret Jennings.
Survivors include nine children, Inez Voyles (John), Cova Bates Jr. (Judy), Rita Berry, Eva North (Richard), Edgar Bates (Kim) and Brian Bates (Lori), all of Corydon, Doug Bates (Kathrine) of Bethpage, Tenn., Steve Bates (Flor) of Harlingen, Texas, and Dale Bates (Amy) of Owenton, Ky.; 26 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law, Clara Snider; and countless nieces, nephews and extended family.
Visitation: Saturday, Feb. 27, from noon to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Feb. 28, after 11 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Sunday, Feb. 28, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with private burial.
