Pairings set for boys’ tournament

Three hundred ninety-eight teams were drawn and placed into brackets for the 106th annual Indiana High School Athletic Association Boys’ Basketball State Tournament presented by the Indiana Pacers and Indiana Fever.
Sectional games are scheduled to begin Tuesday and continue through Saturday, March 5, with the regional round slated for Saturday, March 12, and semi-states on Saturday, March 19. The four state championship games that make up the state finals will be played at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis on Saturday, March 26.
In Class 3A, Corydon Central and North Harrison head to the Charlestown Sectional while, in Class 1A, Lanesville and South Central are bound for the New Washington Sectional. Crawford County will take part in the Class 2A Paoli Sectional.
Five of the seven teams in the Charlestown Sectional enter with winning records.
The tournament will kick off Tuesday when North Harrison (12-7) takes on Brownstown Central (18-3) at 7 p.m. The next night, Corydon Central (1-20) will hit the hardwood to face Charlestown (15-6) at 6. To close the Wednesday session, Silver Creek (17-4) will battle Scottsburg (1-20).
Salem (15-5) drew the bye and waits for the Brownstown Central/North Harrison winner. The Wednesday night winners will take on one another in the opposite semi-final.
In the competitive New Washington Sectional, six teams are preparing for the journey to the championship. Drawing one another in opening-round match-ups, Shawe Memorial (4-18) will take on New Washington (14-8) while, on the opposite side, South Central (1-20) will seek to knock off Christian Academy of Indiana (13-8).
Lanesville (15-6) drew one of two byes and waits to take on the South Central/CAI victor. Rock Creek Academy (13-8) awaits the Shawe Memorial/New Washington winner on the opposite side of the bracket.
At the Paoli Sectional, which also has six teams, Crawford County (14-7) received a bye and waits for the winner between Paoli (11-10) against Henryville (11-9). The other side of the bracket pits Eastern (Pekin) (4-16) versus Clarksville (8-13) with the winner getting a date with Providence (14-6) in the semi-final.
Tickets are $6 per session or $10 for all sessions (per sectional).
