Corydon woman killed in single-vehicle crash
A Corydon woman died last Tuesday afternoon from injuries sustained in a single-vehicle crash.
Michelle L. Brown, 40, was a passenger in a 1997 black General Motors pick-up truck driven by Joseph D. Chandler, 27, of Central.
The pickup was headed south on S.R. 337 south of Corydon when it ran off the highway just past Alabama Drive and continued through a wire fence, striking a fence post and a large tree.
According to a crash report by the Harrison County Sheriff’s Dept., Chandler said his doctor changed the medication he was on and that could have caused him to blackout. Chandler, who was not wearing a seat belt, was transported to the hospital with chest injuries.
Another passenger, Brown’s 19-year-old daughter Ashley Allen of Corydon, also was transported to the hospital due to her injuries. According to police, she was sitting in the rear driver’s side seat and was not wearing a seat belt. She had to be extricated from the truck.
Brown was riding in the front passenger seat and also not wearing a seat belt, according to the crash report. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Besides the sheriff’s department, also assisting at the scene were Harrison County Hospital Emergency Medical Services, AirEvac and Harrison Township, Heth Township and New Middletown volunteer fire departments.
