Girls’ Basketball Regional information
North Harrison will make its 12th appearance at the regional level, while South Central is making its eighth.
South Central has won two regional titles (2003, 2006), while North Harrison has won one (2003). The tournament run 10 years ago for South Central resulted in a state final appearance after winning the Southport Semi-state.
North Harrison heads to the regional level of the Indiana High School Athletic Association tournament to play on a fellow Mid-Southern Conference member’s floor, Charlestown.
At the Class 3A Charlestown Regional, the Lady Cats are the lone ranked team, checking in at No. 7 with a 25-2 record.
North Harrison opens the regional at 10 a.m. versus Greensburg (22-3). That game will be followed by Vincennes Lincoln (21-5) versus Evansville Memorial (17-7) at noon. Winners will return that night for an 8 o’clock tip to determine who moves on to semi-state.
Greensburg had no issues running through its sectional, defeating Madison (47-30), Lawrenceburg (52-30) and Franklin County (67-46).
Columbus East handed Greensburg its last loss (49-42) back on Jan. 14. Columbus East also handed North Harrison one of its two losses, 62-59, on Dec. 5. North Harrison’s two losses are by a combined four points.
After Southridge knocked out the state’s top ranked team, Princeton (34-33), it fell to eventual sectional champ Vincennes Lincoln 48-39. The Alices also beat Pike Central (61-26) and Jasper (47-26).
Evansville Memorial romped through its sectional too, beating Heritage Hills (67-46), Mount Vernon (69-39) and Boonville (64-31).
Springs Valley Regional
The Springs Valley Regional features the state’s No. 1 team in Class 1A ‘ Vincennes Rivet (23-3) ‘ and the state’s final remaining unbeaten team, No. 4 Springs Valley (24-0).
South Central (17-10) begins the two-game regional against Vincennes Rivet at 10 a.m. That game will be followed by Springs Valley against fellow Patoka Lake Athletic Conference-foe Orleans (12-15) at noon. The championship will take place at 8.
Rivet is one of the top offenses in the state, averaging 62.2 points per outing. It rolled through sectional play, defeating Barr-Reeve in the final, 73-30.
Springs Valley had a tougher road, defeating Wood Memorial 49-48 to hoist the sectional title. Orleans reached the regional level by knocking off Borden, 36-26.
Rivet, under coach Tim Young, won the Class 1A state title in 2011.
Springs Valley High School is located in French Lick.
Due to the South Central girls’ basketball team making regional, the Rebels’ boys’ basketball game versus Evansville Day has been moved to tomorrow (Thursday). South Central is the host with the junior varsity contest starting at 6:30 p.m. followed by the varsity at approximately 8.
South Central also added a boys’ basketball game to the schedule, a Saturday, Feb. 27, trip to Medora. The junior varsity contest will begin at 4 p.m. followed by the varsity at 5:30.
Regional ticket info
North Harrison High School athletic office is offering pre-sale tickets in the office. Pre-sale tickets are $10 each and are good for both sessions on Saturday.
South Central Junior-Senior High School has a limited number (100) of pre-sale tickets as well for $10.
Tickets also can be purchased on game day at both locations for $7 per session or $10 for all sessions.
