Wanda J. Beams, 74, Elizabeth, died Monday, Jan. 18, 2016, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
Born Sept. 28, 1941, in Lawrenceburg, Ky., she was the daughter of the late Chester and Rosetta West Sutherland.
She worked at Seinsheimers Shirt Factory in New Albany, was the former owner-operator of The Rebel Inn with her husband in Elizabeth, was a school bus driver for South Harrison Community School Corp. during the 1970s, and, after her husband’s retirement, they opened the 4 Way Stop Restaurant. She also, in later years, worked in the gift shops at Caesars of Indiana and then later when it became Horseshoe Southern Indiana.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Jerry Beams; a grandson, Wesley Slentz; a brother, Stanley Sutherland; and a nephew, Steven Sutherland.
Survivors include a son, Troy Beams of Elizabeth; a daughter, Tara Slentz of Albuquerque, N.M.; a brother, James Sutherland (Margaret) of Elizabeth; and two grandsons, Cameron Slentz and Samuel Slentz-Bobo.
Visitation: Thursday, Jan. 21, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Friday, Jan. 22, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Friday, Jan. 22, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in Rose Hill Cemetery in Elizabeth.
Officiant: The Rev. Mark Stewart.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Freedom Christian Church.
