Norman Bodenbender, 78, New Albany, died Sunday, Dec. 27, 2015.
Born Oct. 20, 1937, in Louisville, he was the son of the late Louis (Bud) and Winnie Mae Mattingly Bodenbender.
He was the founder and operator of Bodenbender & Shawler Construction Co. until his retirement. He was a Marine veteran, who joined the Marine Corps after traveling with the circus/carnival in the summer years, and was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. He received the 2002 Indiana Conservation Farmer of the Year award and the 2010 River Friendly Farmer Award.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Scott Bodenbender.
Survivors include his wife of 53 years, the former Helen Jeanette. Faulkner; four children, Cynthia (Cyndi) Bodenbender, Todd Bodenbender (C.J.~Cynthia), Roger Bodenbender (Kimberly) and Travis Bodenbender; four siblings, Winnie Gay Casey, Gary (Sherlynn), Randal (Mona) and Greg (Melanie) Bodenbender; eight grandchildren, Tara (Travis), Wesley (Jessica), Cody (Sarah), Kayelynn, Kandace, Christopher (Katie), Scott and Shaun; seven great-grandchildren, Trinity, Ty, Treasure, Luke, Louis, Elias and Arriya; and a great-great-grandchild, Hadley Mae.
Visitation: Friday, Jan. 1, from noon to 8 p.m., with a remembrance service at 7, and Saturday, Jan. 2, after 8 a.m. at Kraft Funeral Service in New Albany.
Funeral liturgy: Saturday, Jan. 2, at 10 a.m. at Holy Family Catholic Church with burial, and full military honors, in St. Mary’s New Albany Cemetery.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the A.S.D. (Autism Spectrum Disorder), Down Syndrome or to The Wounded Warriors Project.
