SH approves raise for superintendent

By a 4-3 vote, South Harrison Community School Corp. Supt. Dr. Mark Eastridge received a raise at the Dec. 1 meeting of the Board of Trustees at Corydon Intermediate School.
Though the amount is $6,000, half is actually a pay increase, with the other half going toward an adjustment in Eastridge’s health insurance.
Larry Hauswald made the motion to accept the increase; Karen Lopp seconded. They, with Mary Mathes and Barbara Smith, voted for, while Diana Sailor, Mindy Wibbels and Shelly Romero voted against.
Earlier, the board heard an update on the playground project at CIS, learning that $200 had come in from pajama day at the school, $800 was earned from a 5k race and $900 had been raised by selling Jibby’s Frozen Yogurt. To date, $17,600 is in the playground fund, and organizers say they are pursuing grants from the Harrison County Community Foundation and other entities to, hopefully, get the playground up before the end of the school year.
The board also watched a presentation of recent mussel tagging by CIS students.
