Four teams set for holiday tourney action

Holiday plans come together for most families, but, during the break, four area basketball teams will head to various basketball tournaments.
The South Central boys’ and girls’ squads will participate in the Toyota Teamwork Classic at various Gibson County schools. Heading north will be the Corydon Central boys to Indianapolis, while North Harrison’s boys venture to Milan.
At the Toyota Teamwork Classic, another talented field of teams will challenge South Central on Dec. 21, 23 and 26.
In the girls’ tournament, teams are split into two pools, allowing for three pool play games.
South Central (3-5) will begin pool play against Wood Memorial (6-3) on Monday at 8:15 p.m. (to be played at Wood Memorial). Game two ‘ against arguably South Central’s toughest opponent of the season, Class 3A No. 1 Princeton (10-0) which features Miss Basketball favorite Jackie Young ‘ will be played on Dec. 23 at Princeton at 11:30 a.m.
After facing Princeton, South Central will head to Gibson Southern (7-3) to face the Lady Titans at 6:30 p.m.
Teams in the opposite pool include Mount Carmel (Ill.) (2-6), Evansville Reitz (0-10), Mount Vernon (3-5) and Lawrenceville (Ill.).
The placement games will take place Saturday, Dec. 26, as follows (location in parenthesis): seventh place ‘ Pool A fourth place vs. Pool B fourth place, noon (Oakland City University); fifth place ‘ Pool A third place vs. Pool B third place, noon (Wood Memorial); third place ‘ Pool A second place vs. Pool B second place, 3:30 p.m. (Wood Memorial); championship ‘ Pool A first place vs. Pool B first place, 7 p.m. (Wood Memorial).
On the boys’ side, South Central (0-4) will begin the tournament at Wood Memorial as well, taking on the 1A No. 7 Trojans (5-0) at 6:30 p.m. on Monday.
The next game for South Central will take place versus Princeton (0-4) at 1:15 p.m. on the home floor of Princeton on Dec. 23. That night, the Rebels will face Gibson Southern (1-0) at 8:15 (at Gibson Southern).
Teams featured in the opposite pool include 4A No. 4 Evansville Reitz (4-0), Castle (3-0), Mount Carmel (Ill.) (5-4) and Lawrenceville (Ill.).
Similar to the girls, the placement games will take place Saturday, Dec. 26, as follows: seventh place ‘ Pool A fourth place vs. Pool B fourth place, 1:45 p.m. (Oakland City University); fifth place ‘ Pool A third place vs. Pool B third place, 1:45 p.m. (Wood Memorial); third place ‘ Pool A second place vs. Pool B second place, 5:15 p.m. (Wood Memorial); Championship C’ Pool A first place vs. Pool B first place, 8:45 p.m. (Wood Memorial).
The Corydon Central and North Harrison boys’ basketball teams will hit the road next Wednesday (Dec. 23) for one-day events.
North Harrison is slated to participate in the Milan Tournament, a four-team affair. Action will begin at 10 a.m. with Greensburg (3-2) versus Calumet (2-3) followed by North Harrison (4-1) against Milan (2-2) at noon.
The consolation game will be at 5 p.m. followed by the championship at 7.
Heading north, Corydon Central is one of 18 teams playing in the Indianapolis Manual Showcase on Dec. 23.
The games will begin at 9 a.m. and run until 9 that night. Corydon Central (0-4) will meet Taylor (1-3) at approximately 4:30 p.m.
A live stream of the game will be available at MTCSports.net and aired on Comcast Cable on a tape-delay basis.
