Wayne Hannel, 66, Bettendorf, Iowa, died Wednesday, Nov. 25, 2015, at the University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City.
Born in 1949, in Corydon, he was the son of the late Wayne T. and Mavis L. Hannel.
He served in the Army, was honorably discharged in 1975, earned degrees in biology from the University of Evansville and a MBA from the University of Iowa, worked with the Army Corps of Engineers, retiring as a regulatory project manager in 2014 after 40 years of service, and was a member of Faith United Church of Christ in Davenport, Iowa, as well as the Master Gardeners, Toastmasters and the Bettendorf Trees Are Us.
Survivors include his wife of 38 years, the former Janice Austin; two daughters, Karen Wakeland of St. Louis and Kristen Walck of Johnston, Iowa; three sisters, Peggy Barnard of Iron Station, N.C., and Ruby Hannel and Tommie Hannel, both of Columbus, Ohio; a brother Robert Hannel of Corydon; and three grandsons.
Celebration of life: Wednesday, Dec. 2, at 10:30 a.m. at Faith United Church of Christ in Davenport with burial, and military honors by Vietnam Veterans of America, Chapter 299, Rock Island, in National Cemetery in Rock Island, Ill.
Pallbearers: Gary Austin, Robert Hannel, Bryan Wakeland, Aaron Walck, James Austin, Alex Barnard, Randy Dodson and Gary Hoker.
Arrangements: Weerts Funeral Home in Davenport.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Faith United Church of Christ.
