Richard H. Whittaker

Richard (Dick) H. Whitaker, 83, Taswell, formerly of Georgetown, died Tuesday, Oct. 13, 2015, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
He was an Air Force veteran, a photo engraver for World Color Press, a member of Graphic Communications International Union Local No. 554, a volunteer for the Georgetown Parks Dept. and a past member of the Georgetown Optimist Club, where he taught basketball and baseball fundamentals to the youth. He was instrumental in the organization of the Georgetown Little League, a time keeper for the Georgetown and Floyd Central Basketball games until the mid 1970s, was a Democrat and was of the Christian faith.
Survivors include his wife, Karlene Whitaker; three sons, Tony of Loganville, Ga., Terry of San Diego and Linc of Ava, Ill.; a daughter; six grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Saturday, Oct. 17, from 6 to 8 p.m. and Sunday, Oct. 18, after 11 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown.
Funeral: Sunday, Oct. 18, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial in Wolfe Cemetery in Georgetown.
Officiant: The Rev. John Bye.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Highfill Chapel, 1939 N. Highfill Chapel Road, Taswell, IN 47175.
