The Rev. W. Byron Mitcham
The Rev. W. Byron Mitcham, 95, Georgetown, died Monday, Oct. 5, 2015, in Louisville.
Born April 27, 1920, in Pike County, Ala., he was the son of the late Curtis Eugene and Eula Spencer Mitcham.
He served more than 30 years in the Navy as a lieutenant commander and chaplain, was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War, was ordained following World War II and made chaplain and was a minister for 70 years, serving in Louisiana, Alabama and Indiana. After retiring from ministry, he founded Pastors Prayer Group of Ministry in the Minister Center for Southeastern Indiana in New Albany and was a member of Harrison Hills Baptist Church in Lanesville.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Thelma Marie Jones, and a grandson, Richard Andrew Mosier.
Survivors include a son, Michael Lynn Mitcham of Georgetown, Ky.; a daughter, Terissa (Terry) Mosier of Louisville; and two granddaughters.
Celebration of Life: Saturday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown.
