Hinton competes at golf regional

Traveling west, North Harrison’s Hallie Hinton made her second appearance at the girls’ golf regional in as many tries on Saturday.
The sophomore took to Country Oaks Golf Club in Montgomery, a sectional hosted by Washington, to tackle the par-72 course.
Playing as an individual, Hinton finished her day with a 90. Hinton was coming off a fourth-place showing at the Corydon Central Sectional the week before.
Hinton’s best run came on holes 13 through 16, where she parred three of four. She also carded a par on the par-4 fourth hole. On the front nine, Hinton shot 46, while she was two strokes better on the backside.
Last season, during the regional round, Hinton finished with a 92.
The top overall team at regional was Evansville North, which shot a combined 306. Other teams advancing to state were Bloomington South (323) and Evansville Memorial (326). Floyd Central (327), the Corydon Central Sectional champion, missed qualifying for state by one stroke.
Other notable area teams included Silver Creek (eighth, 346) and Providence (13th, 362). The overall medalist was Evansville Memorial’s Lauren Guiao, who shot a 1-under par 71. She won a playoff against Bloomington South’s Cherise Otter.
Among the individuals moving on to state without a team were Floyd Central’s Jessica Ingram (76) and Silver Creek’s Charlotte Seaton (77).
The state final will take place Friday and Saturday (two 18-hole rounds) at Prairie View Golf Club in Carmel.
