Sgt. (Ret.) James E. Johnson
Sgt. (Ret.) James Edwin (Sarge) Johnson, died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2015, at his home after an illness.
Born June 11, 1942, in Portsmouth, Ohio, he was the son of the late Leo Edwin and Cynthia Marcella Johnson.
He served 24 years in the Army, with multiple deployments with stints in Germany and various U.S. bases, including 1960s Alaska as part of a military police canine unit. He later was a rancher in Lubbock, Texas, for a brief time before relocating to Southern Indiana to be the general manager of Keystone Restorations in New Albany.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Carolyn Childress.
Survivors include five children, Jamisue Johnson, Master Sgt. (Ret.) Thomas Scott Johnson, Jennifer Johnson Fetcher, Tracy Johnson and Jamie Renee Schaefer.; a brother, Thomas Johnson; a sister, Helen Coldiron; William (Bradley) Fair; 12 grandchildren; and two great-grandsons.
Celebration of life: Saturday, Aug. 15, from 3 to 8 p.m. at Holiday Inn Express, 249 Federal Drive NW, Corydon.
