Elizabeth M. Hayden

Elizabeth M. (Betty) Hayden, 77, Corydon, died Friday, July 17, 2015, at Kindred Health & Rehabilitation Center- Harrison in Corydon.
Born Dec. 15, 1937, in Indianapolis, she was the daughter of the late Floyd E. and Helen M. McPhillips Bennett.
She was a 1955 graduate of Corydon Central High School, a former employee of Smith Distributing Co., a division of Frigidaire, in Louisville, a homemaker and a 1975 graduate of Indiana University Southeast, where she earned a degree in education. After earning her degree, she taught at Our Lady of Perpetual Help, teaching grades 5, 6, 7 and 8 and taking eighth graders to Washington, D.C., until she retired in 1998. She was a member of St. Joseph Parish in Corydon and was the first lay Eucharistic minister with Father Harry Tulley. She helped teach in the RCIA program for many years, belonged to a Bible study group since 1981 and sang in the choir for many years.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Marlene Bennett Duley, and three brothers, Floyd (Bud) Bennett, Jerry Bennett and Dwight Bennett.
Survivors include her husband of 54 years, James Lancy Hayden; two sons, Gregory Thomas and Gary Allen Hayden; and grandchildren.
Visitation: Sunday, July 19, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday, July 20, from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon
Mass of Christian Burial: Monday, July 20, at 11 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon with burial in the church cemetery.
The family suggests memorial gifts to St. Joseph Catholic Church or School in Corydon.
