William E. Mayfield
William E. (Bill) Mayfield, 81, Lanesville, died Saturday, June 27, 2015, at Floyd Memorial Hospital and Health Services in New Albany.
Born April 7, 1934, in New Albany, he was the son of the late Roscoe and Martha Irene Mix Mayfield.
He was an Army veteran, the former owner/operator of Mayfield Construction, retired from Gohmann Asphalt and Construction and a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville and Laborers Local 576 in Louisville.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by six siblings, Lucy Stewart, Doris Taylor, Martha (Loraine) Richert and Roscoe Jr., Lawrence and Janet Mayfield.
Survivors include his wife of 56 years, the former Grace Hall; eight children, George (Danny), William (Billy), Dennis, Terry and Martha (Marty) Mayfield, Rena Mayfield Phillips, Janet Mayfield Philpot and Thelda Mayfield Smith; a brother, George Mayfield; a sister, Pauline Chaffin; 24 grandchildren; and 27 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, June 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, June 30, from 11 to 8 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Service’s Spring Street location in New Albany.
Funeral Mass: Wednesday, July 1, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary Catholic Church in Lanesville with burial in the church cemetery.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Mass on the Air or Hosparus of Southern Indiana.
