Murphy 20th at Northern Open

Elizabeth resident and North Harrison graduate Jeremy Murphy shot a 2-over par 72 Monday, June 15, in the Indiana PGA Northern Open at Pine Valley Golf Club in Fort Wayne.
The round was good enough for 20th place in the 100-man field, five shots behind winner Ivan Foster of Bridgewater Golf Club. Murphy had two double bogeys on the front nine (4 and 6) leading to a 38, but two birdies on the back helped to a 1-under par 34.
Murphy also tried to qualify for the Indiana State Amateur tournament (June 22 through 25 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Columbus) at Bear Slide Golf Club in Indianapolis and came away with the second alternate position after a 10-over par 81 for a tie for 32nd. Five golfers shot 81, with three securing a position in the state am via a playoff.
Jordan Griffith, formerly of Crawford County, will join recently graduated Corydon Central golfers Timothy Wiseman and Mitchell Frederick in the tournament after qualifying at Shadowood Golf Course in Seymour (1-over par 73).
