Lady Rebs win four vs. Corydon; tennis draw released
South Central girls’ tennis closed the regular season with a 4-1 victory over Corydon Central on a sunny Monday afternoon in Elizabeth.
The Lady Rebels swept the double courts while also scoring a pair of singles victories.
In doubles, Josie Faith and Issabelle Temple were straight sets winners over Annie Blumenstock and Grace Gusler, 6-1, 6-2 at the No. 1 slot.
No. 2 doubles saw Gracie Riley and Maddy Brashear score a 6-4, 6-3 nod over Ashlyn Crawford and Kayla Elliott.
Leading the way in singles action was Lady Rebels’ No. 1 player Alexis Knear. She won the first set against Valerie Crawford 6-1 before closing out the win 6-2 in the second.
The fourth victory for South Central came at No. 3 singles. Brooklyn Woertz outlasted Corydon Central’s Jenna Price, 6-3, 6-3.
Corydon Central’s lone win came at No. 2 singles. Playing on the middle court, it was a back-and-forth battle between Corydon Central’s Meredith Wells and South Central’s Whitney McCoy.
Wells dropped the opening set 6-4 but rallied to win the next two. The second set went to a tie-breaker, won by Wells, 7-4. Closing the match, Wells was able to earn a 7-5 victory.
Girls’ Sectional draw
The Indiana High School Athletic Association Girls’ Sectional draws were released Monday with the following sites involving Harrison County teams: Floyd Central, New Albany and Silver Creek.
Action began yesterday (Tuesday) and will end by Friday.
