Esther Bye Dannenfelser Higdon, 99, died Saturday, April 18, 2015.
Born July 24, 1915, she was the daughter of the late to Henry Grover and Ada Burgess Bye who farmed in Harrison County.
She was a 1933 graduate of New Albany High School, worked her way through Norton Infirmarynursing school in Louisville and, after graduation, worked as a public health nurse in Louisville and worked in the family business, the Petery-Hedden Co. Inc. She hosted students through the International Exchange program and served on the Floyd County Mental Health Association board, receiving a Certificate of Commendation in 1979.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by six siblings, Olaf, Fern Murr, Viola Crosier, Leora Hickman, Burgess and John; her first husband, John M. Dannenfelser; and second husband of 60 years, Patrick B. Higdon.
Survivors include five children, Selma Dannenfelser Brigham, Susan Higdon, Timothy Patrick Higdon, Brian Robert Higdon and Julie Bridget Rickard; five grandchildren; and 11 great-grandchildren.
Memorial and Celebration of Life service: Sunday, May 24, at 3 p.m. at First Unitarian Church in Louisville with cremains interred in the New Albany National Cemetery. Her body was donated to the University of Louisville Medical School.
