Shake-ups abound in sectional realignment

Shake-ups abound in sectional realignment Shake-ups abound in sectional realignment

There wasn’t much change when the enrollment numbers and classifications were released by the Indiana High School Athletic Association a month ago.
However, when the sectional assignments were released Monday, it was a different story.
Plenty of movement within sectionals will take place after the IHSAA Executive Committee accepted the realignment for sectional groups for the 2015-16 and 2016-17 school years.
This fall, the Class 3A Sectional 31 in football will have two new teams after Mitchell dropped to 2A and Washington heads out west. A pair of rather stout football programs ‘ Heritage Hills and Southridge ‘ will enter the sectional. Heritage Hills is coming off a regional championship year and has one state title to its credit. Southridge has not had a losing season since 2005.
Crawford County football will play in Class 2A Sectional 40 with Clarksville, Eastern (Pekin), Evansville Mater Dei, Forest Park, North Posey, Providence and South Spencer.
In boys’ and girls’ basketball, there are changes coming to sectionals involving local teams.
The Class 3A Sectional 30 shifts from an eight-team sectional to seven with Madison moving out. The tournament will feature all Mid-Southern Conference teams Brownstown Central, Charlestown, Corydon Central, North Harrison, Salem, Scottsburg and Silver Creek.
After four straight years of hosting the Class 1A Sectional 62, Borden slides away from the field to another sectional. Sectional 62 will include Lanesville and South Central along with usuals Christian Academy of Indiana, New Washington and Rock Creek Academy. Making it a six-team sectional, Shawe Memorial will join the group next season.
In volleyball, due to Providence moving up a class because of the tournament success factor, rivals Corydon Central and North Harrison will be in different sectionals.
North Harrison will head west to be part of Class 3A Sectional 31 with Jasper, Pike Central, Princeton, Southridge, Vincennes Lincoln and Washington.
Taking North Harrison’s spot in Class 3A Sectional 30 will be back-to-back 2A state champion Providence.
With Providence leaving 2A in volleyball, the Class 2A Sectional 46 field will be five schools: Clarksville, Crawford County, Eastern (Pekin), Henryville, Paoli.
Don’t unbuckle the seat belt yet.
Although Borden moves out in basketball, it will remain in baseball and softball with Lanesville and South Central.
The Class 1A Sectional 62 softball field is Borden, Lanesville, New Washington and South Central. Those four teams also comprise the baseball sectional, with the addition of Christian Academy of Indiana and Rock Creek Academy.
The Class 3A Sectional 30 and Class 2A Sectional 46 in baseball and softball will mirror the boys’ and girls’ basketball sectional.
In soccer, Corydon Central remains in Class 2A in boys and girls while North Harrison is in 1A, along with the Lanesville boys’ program.
Due to the tournament success factor, Providence girls’ soccer moves from 2A back to 1A. With that move, Providence joins Class 1A Sectional 46 with North Harrison.
The boys’ and girls’ Class 2A Sectional 28 features identical fields: Charlestown, Corydon Central, Floyd Central, Jeffersonville, New Albany and Silver Creek.
In Class 1A, the boys’ and girls’ soccer sectionals feature different teams. The boys’ soccer Sectional 60 is set to be four teams ‘ Christian Academy of Indiana, Lanesville, North Harrison and Providence ‘ while the girls’ side will be seven teams, Christian Academy of Indiana, Forest Park, Heritage Hills, North Harrison, Northeast Dubois, Providence and Salem.
