Panthers-Rebels split DH
County rivals Corydon Central and South Central split a Saturday doubleheader, hosted by the Panthers.
In game one, Corydon Central took the lead in the bottom of the fifth and held on for a 3-2 victory over Class 1A No. 1 South Central. Adam Yeager went the distance, striking out seven to earn the victory.
As a team, Corydon Central had three hits, including doubles by Tyler Stauth, Clayton Schreck and Dillion Simler. Alec Saulman, Jordan Ripperdan and Logan Daily drove in runs.
Trying to help his cause on the hill, Nick Veith went 2 for 3 for the Rebels. The right hander took the loss, sitting down three batters.
Cory Ray and Parker Gabhart had extra-base hits in the opener.
Game two saw the Rebels score four runs in the fourth inning to help secure a 9-2 victory.
Ray pitched seven innings for South Central, giving up one earned run while striking out six. He walked only one.
Four different pitchers threw for the Panthers. Jacob Dearth was the losing pitcher after going three innings.
Alex Goforth and Ray paced the South Central offense with two RBIs each. Gabhart, Ray and Veith had a pair of hits each. Hitting doubles for the Rebels were Logan May and Cody Baelz.
Corydon Central was limited to three hits, singles by Saulman, Yeager and Ripperdan.
South Central has a challenging rest of the week. The Rebels will host 3A No. 3 Silver Creek tomorrow (Thursday) before participating in the Madison Invitational on Friday and Saturday.
Corydon Central, meanwhile, will travel tomorrow to rival North Harrison, ranked No. 9 in the latest 3A poll.
