Prior to the start of the NCAA men’s basketball tournament last week, Corydon Central basketball star Bronson Kessinger was featured in a profile, aired by national sports outlet ESPN.
The piece, ‘Kevin Ware’s Journey,’ was published and aired on March 17. Kessinger recalls where he was when Ware suffered a horrifying leg injury as a member of the University of Louisville’s basketball team two years ago during the NCAA Tournament.
After Kessinger suffered a similar injury this past season, the two connected. The emotional story recalls their conversations and the inspiration they’ve brought one another.
Ware now is a junior at Georgia State University, whose team reached this season’s NCAA tournament. Georgia State landed one of the biggest upsets so far in the big dance, knocking off No. 3-seeded Baylor on a last-second shot by Indianapolis Pike product R.J. Hunter.
Kessinger wrapped up his high school career with 1,201 points and 564 rebounds, going out as one of the greats in Corydon Central program history. He also had 121 blocked shots and a 57-percent field-goal percentage.
The next journey for Kessinger is rehabbing and joining the Indiana State University Sycamores’ basketball program next season after signing prior to his high school campaign.
