Harold E. Mayfield

Harold E. Mayfield, 89, Lanesville, died Saturday, March 7, 2015, at his home.
Born June 28, 1925, in Lanesville, he was the son of the late Theodore and Eldore Riley Mayfield.
He was retired from the New Albany school system, where he was a custodian and mail carrier, was a Navy veteran, where he served as a gunner’s mate in World War II, was a lifetime member of New Albany VFW Post 3281 and was a member of St. John’s Lutheran Church near Lanesville.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Julie Mayfield; a granddaughter, Karen Dietrich; and his wife of nearly 64 years, Nellie Mayfield.
Survivors include a son, Steven Mayfield of Utica, Minn.; three daughters, Betty Dietrich of Morton, Ill., and Delores (Dodi) Akridge and Judy Hiser, both of Corydon; a sister, Elvina Simcoe of Corydon; 14 grandchildren; and 32 great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, March 9, from 3 to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, March 10, from 9 to 10 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Tuesday, March 10, at 11 a.m. at St John’s Lutheran Church south of Lanesville with burial in Edwardsville Cemetery.
Officiant: Pastor Christopher Truelsen.
