Cougars start quick, drop Springs Valley

Putting a close on the regular season, North Harrison picked up a late addition to the schedule. Due to Paoli canceling last Tuesday’s scheduled affair due to the Rams needing to complete its Patoka Lake Athletic Conference games, North Harrison was in search of a pick-up game of sorts.
Springs Valley, a team that had two canceled games due to weather, worked out a path to bring the Cougars to French Lick.
The voyage last Wednesday saw the Cougars get off to a hot start then pace their way to a 66-59 victory.
Shawn Bishop led the way for the winners, having a near-perfect game from the field. He was 6-of-7 shooting from the field and netted all six free-throw attempts. The senior closed with 21 points. He also had four rebounds and two assists.
Freshman guard Jake Book distributed the ball well, handing out seven assists. He also scored 14 points, getting to the charity stripe eight times, making six.
Alex Flock scored 11 points for North Harrison, leading the team in rebounds with five.
North Harrison led 24-15 after the first quarter, eventually building its largest lead to 19 points.
Springs Valley whittled away at the lead in the second half but was unable to put much doubt in the final.
‘We got up big early and held on late,’ North Harrison coach Kevin Jones said.
For the second straight game, the Cougars played without Chandler Jenkins, who was missing due to an injury.
Springs Valley put three players in double-figure scoring: Brogan Burton (15), Blake Robling (13) and Braden Whitaker (12).
With the victory, the Cougars nabbed three of their last five outings, moving to 7-15 on the season.
Up next for the blue-and-white squad is an opening-round tilt with Scottsburg (13-7) in the Class 3A Corydon Central Sectional today (Wednesday). On Jan. 10, Scottsburg won a home contest, 65-54, versus North Harrison. The game will tip at 6 p.m. and will be followed by Corydon Central vs. Charlestown.
