Beyerle survives trustee recount

Fifty-five days after the Nov. 4 General Election, Blue River Township officially had a trustee winner Monday afternoon following a recount of ballots.
Democrat Michael Beyerle came out on top of the recount gaining one vote from the original result, for a 331-325 win over Republican Jim Minter.
The Harrison County Republican Party filed for the recount last month.
A recount committee, consisting of Republican Larry Shickles, Democrat Gordon Ingle and Edith Richards as recount mechanic, completed the recount in a little more than 3-1/2 hours. Richards is the Democrat representative on the county’s election board, and the GOP member is Shickles. The committee was assisted by Marcia Dodge and Susie Flock Weigle.
Sherry Brown, chief deputy of Harrison County Circuit Court, said it shows the public the accuracy of the voting machines.
‘We really like our machines,’ she said.
The one added vote was from a ballot the system classified as an ‘over’ vote but clearly showed intent to vote for Beyerle, according to the recount committee.
Both candidates were present for the recount.
