Marcus M. Burgher Jr., 87, Palmyra, died Thursday, Oct. 23, 2014, at Indian Creek Care Facility.
Born March 2, 1927, in Clark County, Ky., he was the son of the late Marcus M. Burgher Sr. and Elsie Mae Stephens Burgher.
He was a retired Bell System management employee in the area office at Louisville, received his Bible Studies diploma from Liberty University and his doctorate from Trinity Seminary and was a member of Palmyra Baptist Church, Blue River Masonic Lodge No. 457, the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Sons of the American Revolution, Telephone Company Pioneers of America and Kentucky Colonels. He also was a licensed amateur radio operator, FCC first-class radio operator, real estate sales person and an honorably discharged World War II Navy veteran as a motor machinist mate 3rd Class petty officer.
Survivors include his wife, the former Anna Margaret Holcomb; a son, Marcus M. Burgher III of Palmyra; two daughters, Vicky Lynn Burgher Schmidt of Georgetown and Stephanie Kaye Burgher of Patoka, Ill.; three grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Saturday, Oct. 25, from 4 to 8 p.m., followed by a Masonic service at 8, at Love Funeral Home in Palmyra.
Funeral: Sunday, Oct. 26, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with burial, and military honors, in the Palmyra Cemetery.
Officiants: Ministers Earl Clark and Ronald Jack Rumbley.
The family suggests memorial gifts to Palmyra Baptist Church.
