42nd football tournament pairings set
One of the most anticipated days of the high school football season finally arrived as pairings for 317 teams were announced Sunday for the 42nd annual Indiana High School Athletic Association Football State Tournament presented by the Indianapolis Colts.
Teams in classes 4A, 3A, 2A and 1A will begin with first-round sectional games on Oct. 24 and will play on consecutive weeks all the way to the state championship games.
Class 3A Sectional 31 will feature Harrison County schools Corydon Central and North Harrison; both will seek to avenge regular-season losses with their first-round match-ups.
Corydon Central (6-2) will hit the road and head to familiar foe Charlestown (6-2). The Pirates, coached by former Panthers head man Darin Ward, pulled out a 13-6 win on a sloppy Oct. 3 night.
North Harrison (2-5), meanwhile, lost a heart-breaker to Salem (3-5) on Sept. 5, 41-38. The Cougars will get a shot at redemption in the first round of sectional action when they host the Lions.
Also in the sectional, undefeated No. 2 Brownstown Central (8-0) will host winless Washington (0-8). The Brownstown Central-Washington winner will take on the Corydon Central-Charlestown winner on Oct. 31.
On the opposite side of the bracket, the North Harrison-Salem winner will face the victor between Mitchell (3-5) at Brown County (0-8).
In Class 2A Sectional 39, Crawford County (1-6) will host Eastern (Pekin) (0-8) in the opening round. The winner will take on the survivor of Milan (4-4) at Paoli (5-3).
Admission is $6 per person. Kick-off times are set for 7 p.m.
