NH boys win MSC; Fleace and Bosler medal
North Harrison was well represented with the top overall performances at the Mid-Southern Conference cross country meet Saturday.
Taking place at Hardy Lake in Scottsburg, North Harrison harriers Daniel Fleace and Ashton Bosler took the honors in the boys’ and girls’ 5k races, respectively. For Bosler, she capped four straight MSC individual titles.
Ranked No. 16, the North Harrison boys easily won the team title, placing all five scoring runners in the top 15.
Fleace came away with the top spot, completing the course in 16:07. Heading into the postseason, Fleace has been one of the fastest in the state. His time of 15:39 at the FlashRock Invitational in September ranks 15th fastest thus far statewide.
Finishing behind Fleace at the MSC was teammate Michael White, posting a time of 16:34.
Fellow Cougar runner Curtis Wetzel (16:42) was fourth, while Jacob Faith (17:13) was 10th. Nathaniel Lone (17:48) was 15th. Other runners for North Harrison were Collier Smith (18th, 17:51) and Chance Schickel (22nd, 18:08).
As a team, North Harrison finished with 32 points, followed by Silver Creek (55) and Eastern (Pekin) (78). Corydon Central was sixth with 152 points.
Corydon Central’s top performer was 17th-place finisher Johnathan Leaf (17:50). Other Corydon Central competitors were Dylan Bachman (24th, 18:25), Ben Glordan (34th, 19:05), Theo Guerra (36th, 19:12), Nathaniel Kurz (44th, 21:00), Brady Brawner (47th, 21:26) and Noah Hamilton (53rd, 22:27).
In the girls’ competition, Bosler continued her dominance among MSC runners. Completing a career sweep, Bosler won the 5k in her fourth consecutive try.
This time around, Bosler crossed the tape in 19:09. She was well ahead of runner-up Mackenzie Crouch (19:41) of Silver Creek.
Silver Creek, however, earned the team bragging rights by scoring 42 points. North Harrison was second with 59 points. Corydon Central (145) placed sixth.
North Harrison’s Hayley Elliot cracked the top 10 with an eighth-place performance, running in 21:31. Rounding out the scoring for the Lady Cats were Natalie Hollensead (13th, 22:37), Shelby Kondovski (18th, 23:20) and Lexy Terrell (19th, 23:29).
Melissa Mayfield had the best run among Corydon Central’s contingent. She ran a time of 22:17 to place 12th. Other Corydon Central runners were Sara Bussabarger (27th, 25:35), Liz Thomas (29th, 26:08), Julian Stone (37th, 27:18) and Carly Goldsmith (49th, 34:15).
Up next for Corydon Central and North Harrison will be the Crawford County Sectional. Competition, featuring 12 schools, will take place Saturday beginning at 11:15 a.m. The top 10 individuals from non-advancing teams and the first five qualifying teams from each sectional shall advance to regionals.
