Lanesville wraps up SAC boys’ tennis title
The Lanesville boys’ tennis team won back-to-back matches against Southern Athletic Conference foes to wrap up the league title.
Last Wednesday, the Eagles went on the road and defeated rival South Central 5-0.
As a team, Lanesville didn’t drop a set on the way to victory. The Eagles were led by No. 1 singles player Zach Robinson, who took down Parker Gabhart 6-3, 6-3.
Also on the singles court, Matt Husband (No. 2) dropped Austin Schoen 6-2, 6-0, while Joe Ferree (No. 3) handled Dakota Lambert 6-4, 6-0.
Shifting to the doubles side, Jon Ferree and Jake Chanley won the opening set 6-3 over Henry Hentrup and Jack Turner. They polished off the second set with a 6-1 score in No. 1s.
In No. 2 doubles, Stephen Shaffer and Colton Rottet won 6-2, 6-4 over Logan May and Zach Goodwin.
‘Lanesville was kind enough to come to our courts even when half of them are damaged, and I thank them for that,’ South Central coach Casey Hogan said. ‘Tonight was senior night. I want to thank my seniors ‘ Parker Gabhart, Jack Turner, Dakota Lambert and Zach Goodwin ‘ for their dedication this year.’
Hogan also thought highly of their opponent.
‘Lanesville played great,’ he said. ‘They have a very experienced team. However, this match did instill a hunger in us. It gave us a look at what they bring to the table.’
Completing the season sweep of SAC opponents, Lanesville blanked Henryville the next day.
Robinson was dominate versus Emery Dieterlan 6-0, 6-1. Husband defeated Elijah Weeks 6-2, 6-3, while Joe Ferree took care of Cameron Tanner 6-3, 7-5.
In doubles, Jon Ferree and Chanley teamed to down Luke Davidson and Justin Boman 6-3, 6-2. Making quick work of Mason Edwards and Austin Roth, Eagles’ No. 2 doubles of Shaffer and Rottet cruised 6-0, 6-3.
