James (Gordon) Pendleton, 81, Corydon, died Thursday, Sept. 18, 2014, at Baptist Health in Louisville.
Born Sept. 11, 1933, in New Middletown, he was the son of the late James H. and Wenonah Winterkorn Pendleton.
He graduated from New Middletown High School and Ball State University, served two years in the Army and taught and coached at Corydon Central High School before serving as CEO of First Federal Savings and Loan and First Harrison Bank. He later became chairman of the bank board. He served two terms as a Harrison County Council member, was a member of the Indiana State School Board during Frank O’Bannon’s governorship and served as a member of the South Harrison Community School Corp. school board. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, the Harrison County Economic Development Corp. board, Harrison County Community Foundation board, Corydon Rotary Club, Masonic Lodge of Corydon, Chamber of Commerce of Harrison County, Corydon Jaycees, Indiana University Southeast Board of Advisors, Leadership Louisville Bingham Fellow and Harrison County Extension Advisory Board.
Survivors include his wife, the former Christine Neff; a son, Erik Pendleton of Louisville; two daughters, Alisa Burch and Natalie Crosier, both of Corydon; two brothers, Henry (Polk) Pendleton of Nabb and Larry Pendleton of Laguna Beach, Calif.; two sisters, Nancy Cowee of Aurora, Colo., and Sharon Timberlake of Lanesville; 10 grandchildren; and a great-granddaughter.
Visitation: Sunday, Oct. 5, from 1 to 5 p.m. in the Corydon Central High School auditorium.
Celebration of life service: Sunday, Oct. 5, at 5 p.m. in the school auditorium.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Harrison County Community Foundation to be designated for a New Middletown Memorial Park Fund.
