Martha Ann Vissman Smythe, 80, Mauckport, formerly of Louisville, died Friday, Sept. 5, 2014.
Born May 6, 1934, in Louisville, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Martha Shircliff Vissman.
She graduated from Loretta Highs School in 1952 and earned a degree as a registered nurse from St. Marys and Elizabeth Hospital in 1955. She was a head nurse and taught psychiatric nursing in Our Lady of Peace.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a sister, Pat Quinn.
Survivors include her husband of 58 years, William (Bill) Smythe; four children, William (Billy) Smythe of Mauckport, Susan Smythe Slepski of Greenville, Stephen Smythe of Louisville and Mark Smythe of Corydon; six brothers, Thomas Vissman of Pawleys Island, S.C., Fred Vissman of Jacksonville, Fla., William Vissman of Grand Rapids, Mich., Michael Vissman of Denver, Colo., Timothy Vissman of Atlanta, Ga., and Robert Vissman of Louisville; two sisters, Helen Jarboe and Mary Squires, both of Louisville; and six grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, Sept. 8, from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral Mass: Tuesday, Sept. 9, at 11 a.m. at St. John the Apostle Catholic Church in Brandenburg.
Officiant: Father Kevin Bryan.
Pallbearers: Bill, Stephen and Mark Smythe, Norbert Slepski, Nicholas Smythe, Josh Slepski and Nathaniel and Christopher Smythe.
Honorary pallbearers: Fred, Bill, Mike, Tim and Bob Vissman.
