John J. Quinkert

John Joseph Quinkert, 87, Lanesville, died Friday, Aug. 8, 2014, at Providence Retirement Home in New Albany.
Born Aug. 12, 1926, in New Albany, he was the son of the late John E. (Molly) and Marguerite Franconia Quinkert.
He attended Holy Trinity Grade School, was a 1944 graduate of New Albany High School, served his country as an infantryman in the Army during World War II in the Pacific Campaign, was a retired machinist from Reynolds Metal in Louisville, was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville, Pope John Paul Knights of Columbus Council No. 1808 in Harrison County and Hobart Beach VFW Post No. 1693 in New Albany, was one of the original members of the Providence High School Booster Club, was a former Boy Scout Leader and volunteered at his church, Providence High School, Franklin Township Athletic Club and the old Providence Retirement Home.
Survivors include his wife of 60 years, the former Ruth Kochert; four sons, Terry Quinkert of Elizabeth, Andy and Steve Quinkert, both of New Albany, Jack Quinkert of Dyer and Alan Quinkert of Sellersburg; a daughter, Sara Wiseman of Lanesville; two brothers, Pat Quinkert of New Albany and Abbot Denis Quinkert, OSB, of St. Meinrad; two sisters, Dodie Day of Lanesville and Sister Joann Quinkert, S.P., of Terre Haute; and 10 grandchildren.
Visitation: Tuesday, Aug. 12, from noon to 8 p.m. at Kraft Funeral Service in New Albany.
Funeral Mass: Wednesday, Aug. 13, at 11 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Lanesville with burial in the church cemetery.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the Providence High School Booster Club or WHAS Crusade for Children.
