Mary R. Best

Mary Ruth Helfrich Best, 89, New Albany, died Saturday, June 21, 2014, at Carolina House in Chapel Hill, N.C.
Born Sept. 12, 1924, in New Salisbury, she was the daughter of the late Arland Helfrich and Ruth Raaf.
She graduated from New Salisbury High School, was retired from the U.S. Army Corp of Engineers, Louisville District, and had been a member of Centenary & Trinity United Methodist Churches in New Albany, First United Methodist in Panama City, Fla., and University United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Cort W. Best.
Survivors include a daughter, Cynthia Best Bradley of Chapel Hill; a sister, Madelyn Kirkham of Panama City; a granddaughter; and a great-granddaughter.
Graveside service: Woods Chapel Cemetery near Ramsey.
Arrangements: Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey was in charge of local arrangements.
