Marvin D. Longest

Marvin (Buck) Donald Longest, 85, Leitchfield, Ky., formerly of Corydon and Tell City, died Tuesday, June 3, 2014, at Bee Hive Assisted Living in Leitchfield.
Born Aug. 30, 1928, in Crawford County, he was the son of the late Roy and Lucy Longest.
He served in the Navy, spending two years in the Atlantic area, worked 23 years for The News Publishing Co. in Tell City and then worked for O’Bannon Publishing Co. in Corydon for 20 years until he retired as the production manager in 1993. Other activities and honors for Marvin include: editor of The Indiana Angus News, The Santa Claus Times and The Hoosier Jaycees, PTA president, governor of the Moose Lodge in Tell City, secretary of the Tell City Planning Commission, Scoutmaster, member of the American Legion and Tell City Jaycees, Tell City’s Outstanding Jaycee 1957-58, DSA Outstanding Young Man of the Year 1962 and Junior Chamber International Senator 1965.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, the former Sylvia Ann Cook.
Survivors include a daughter, Donna LaGrange of Hardinsburg, Ky.; twin sons, Terry Longest of Oviedo, Fla., and Jerry Longest of Orange, Texas; a sister, Imo Tyler of New Albany; seven grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Friday, June 6, from 4 to 8 p.m., CDT, and Saturday, June 7, after 8:30 a.m. at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg, Ky.
Funeral: Saturday, June 7, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with burial, and with military honors, in Lily Dale Cemetery in Gatchel.
Officiant: The Rev. Greg Shannon.
