Seitz places 29th at state

Bailey Seitz, a North Harrison junior, represented the Lady Cat swimming team Friday at the IHSAA State Finals in Indianapolis.
Making her first appearance at the state meet, Seitz took to her event, the 50-yard freestyle, during Friday’s preliminary round.
Taking off in the first of five heats, Seitz won her race among two others but didn’t post a fast enough time to return Saturday for the final or consolation. Seitz swam the event in 25.11 seconds. The cut time to reach the consolation was 24.15 seconds.
The state meet was at the IUPUI Natatorium in Indianapolis with the prelims on Friday followed by the finals on Saturday.
Carmel’s Amy Bilquist won two events, the 50 and 100 free, setting state records in both, with her 50 time of 22.15 seconds coming in the prelims.
Swimming in the final, Bilquist, a junior, swam in 22.17 seconds, outlasting Zionsville’s Alex Cleveland (22.68).
Seitz was the first North Harrison swimmer to represent the program at the state meet. She was coming off a first-place finish at the Floyd Central Sectional in the 50.
There were nine state records set during the finals on Saturday and 10 for the weekend.
Carmel won its 28th consecutive state title in girls’ swimming with 399 points. Crown Point was a distant second with 209 points. The longest streak of consecutive state championships (29) in all sports in all states belongs to the Honolulu Punahou, Hawaii, boys’ swimming team (1958-86). Carmel is a year away from tying that mark.
Carmel won all three relay races, setting state records in each.
