Service a tribute to Dr. King
The 28th annual Martin Luther King Jr. tribute in Harrison County will be Sunday beginning at 2 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Corydon.
The ecumenical service will feature Minister Monty Fourte of Louisville as the guest speaker.
Several music acts are scheduled to perform, including The St. Joseph Catholic Church Bilingual Choir, Down by the Wayside Choir from Louisville, Another Blessing from Irvington, Ky., Archdiocese Choir of Louisville and Little Matthew Blevins from Clair Memorial United Methodist Church.
Jewel Brown, who was instrumental in starting a King service here, said the service will also include ‘more great surprises.’
The first service in Harrison County to honor the slain civil rights leader took place in January 1979 at St. Paul AME Church in Corydon. As attendance increased, the service was moved to Corydon Christian Church ‘ Disciples of Christ.
Since those early years, other denominations ‘ Assembly of God, Methodist, Nazarene and Presbyterian ‘ have hosted the service.
Following the program, there will be a free meal. Those who wish to do so may contribute a covered dish, but it’s not a requirement for staying to eat.
