Man charged with attempted murder

A Corydon man was charged with attempted murder and three other felonies last week after allegedly using a vehicle to run over another man.
According to a probable cause affidavit, Brent M. Nichols, 34, of the 400 block of Ridley Street, allegedly called a female and told her that he was going to kill her husband for allegedly engaging in a sexual relationship with Nichols’ wife.
The affidavit says Nichols and the other man had been friends for a period of time and were familiar with each other.
A short time after the call and/or text messages were made on or about Dec. 8 of last year, Nichols and the man arranged to meet at Dairy Mart along Chestnut Street in Corydon.
The man arrived before Nichols, who allegedly struck the man multiple times with his vehicle before fleeing the scene at a high rate of speed.
The incident was witnessed by two Dairy Mart employees and two customers who were near the front of the store at the time of the incident.
Nichols was interviewed about the incident by a member of the Harrison County Prosecutor’s Office. During the interview, Nichols allegedly admitted to striking the man with a vehicle multiple times, but he did not admit to intentionally striking the man with his vehicle, which was inconsistent with the victim’s statement and the statements by the four witnesses.
Since the attack, the victim has been treated by a physician for his injuries, including soreness, stiffness, bruising and extreme pain.
Nichols was charged with Class A felony attempted murder, Class B felony aggravated battery, Class C felony criminal recklessness and Class D felony failure to stop at a crash scene resulting in serious bodily injury.
