Couple surprised by 1st baby of 2014
Alice Nichols and Michael Lynch, both of Lanesville, initially wondered why they were receiving gift baskets from strangers after the birth of their daughter on Jan. 2.
‘Then, I found out,’ Alice said Saturday afternoon from her room at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.
It’s because the couple’s daughter, Aleaha Dione Lynch, was the first baby to be born at HCH in 2014. She arrived by C-section at 9:14 p.m. Thursday, weighing 7 pounds, 5 ounces and was 20 inches long. Dr. Kerrin C. Dunn, Alice’s obstetrician, performed the procedure.
Alice had been to the doctor earlier that morning and had been scheduled for a C-section on Jan. 7. Her son, 2-year-old Christian Lynch, had arrived by emergency C-section, also at HCH.
‘I was tired,’ Alice said, but ‘had every intention of having her’ baby on Jan. 7.
She said the unborn baby was keeping her awake at night, kicking her. However, if Alice turned over so her belly was touching Michael, the baby would go to sleep.
Alice, who is employed in the billing department at Accent Marketing in Jeffersonville (Michael is a factory worker), said their son has been telling people that the doctor gave his mommy a baby.
Aleaha also has an 18-year-old half sister, Kelsey Lynch.
The couple knew they were going to have a girl this time. Alice said she was ‘very excited’ about having a daughter who ‘definitely’ would have a lot of pink things.
Aleaha’s maternal grandparents are Melanie Nichols of Greenville and Noah Nevil of New Albany. Her paternal grandfather is the late Larry Lynch.
