Donald L. (Ossie) Saulman, 83, Corydon, died Wednesday, Oct. 30, 2013, at his home.
Born Dec. 8, 1929, in Corydon, he was the son of the late Oscar and Mary Viola Shickles Saulman.
He was a retired truck driver and train engineer for LNA&C Railroad, having run ‘The Betty Sue,’ was a former firefighter for 30 years for the Corydon Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Harrison Township Volunteer Fire Dept. and was a former fire chief for 11 years for the Corydon Volunteer Fire Dept. In retirement, he was employed at the Duley Enterprises Gas Station and was a newspaper delivery person for The Corydon Democrat. He was a member of Teamsters Union Local No. 89 and Heidelberg United Methodist Church near Corydon and was treasurer of the Heidelberg Cemetery Foundation.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, Walter and Earl Saulman, and three sisters, Gladys Duley, Myrtle Kingsley and Katherine Satterfield.
Survivors include his wife, the former Bonnie Orme; three daughters, Patricia Ann Toler, Joyce E. James and Donna Leigh Rose, all of Corydon; a brother, Gerald Saulman of Corydon; a sister, Anna Jane Razor of Georgetown; nine grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Saturday, Nov. 2, from 1 to 8 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 3, from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Monday, Nov. 4, after 9 a.m. at Beanblossom-Cesar Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Monday, Nov. 4, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home in Corydon with burial in Heidelberg Cemetery near Corydon.
Officiants: The Revs. Dennis Aud and Scott Taylor.
Pallbearers: His grandchildren.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the WHAS Crusade for Children or the American Cancer Society.
