Myrtle Sanders Tomes, 91, Georgetown, died Friday, Oct. 11, at 10:10 a.m. at her home.
Born Oct. 5, 1922, in Edmonson County, Ky., on land that is present-day Mammoth Cave National Park, she was the daughter of the late Pat and Laura Mae Priddy Sanders.
She was a homemaker, was baptized in Rhoda Creek and was a member of Otter Gap Baptist Church in Edmonson County, Ky.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Dewey Tomes; two sons, Jessie Earl Sr. and Billy Ray Tomes; three grandchildren; and a great-grandchild.
Survivors include 10 children, Edward LeRoy Tomes and Judith Elaine Taylor, both of Corydon, James Elzie Sr., Cathy Sue and Laura Regina Tomes, all of Georgetown, Larry Joe Tomes of Louisville, Roger Dale Tomes of Indianapolis, Glenna Darlene Toliver of Madison, Sherry Ann Richmond of Dallas and Ronald Dean Tomes of Clarksville; three sisters, Lela Abney of Lafayette, Pearl Hatfield of Denver, Colo., and Thelma Ruth Myers of Colorado Springs, Colo.; 35 grandchildren; 50 great-grandchildren; and six great-great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Monday, Oct. 14, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Tuesday, Oct. 15, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Georgetown.
Funeral: Tuesday, Oct. 15, at 10 a.m. at the funeral home with interment at Wolfe Cemetery in Georgetown.
