Dennis O. Simmerman

Dennis O. Simmerman, 63, Corydon, died Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2013, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.
Born Sept. 3, 1950, in Charleston, Mo., he was the son of the late Louis Leon and Thelma McCutchen Simmerman.
He worked and performed many jobs in the oil fields, worked in geology, was a flagger, truck driver and mud logger, worked as a framer and sider in the construction industry, owned and operated a solar company when solar was just beginning, was an artist and sculptor who constructed a bed and a family crest for singer Joe Cocker and did the form setting in concrete at the home of the Discovery Channel owner John Hendrix.
Besides his parents, he was preceded in death by a daughter, Leah Sherie Simmerman; a sister, Linda Farrar; and a brother, Allen Simmerman.
Survivors include his wife, the former Sherrie Lloyd; two sons, David Simmerman of Corydon and Dennis Simmerman Jr. of California; three daughters, Tonya Simmerman of Washington, Renee Simmerman of New York and Jeannie Fisher of California; two brothers, Gary Simmerman of Colorado and Louis Simmerman Jr. of Oregon; and a sister, Diane Romarine of Colorado.
Visitation: Friday, Oct. 11, from 5 to 7 p.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Friday, Oct. 11, at 7 p.m. at the funeral home with burial Tuesday, Oct. 15, at Indiana Veterans Memorial Cemetery.
