For 4th time, CC wins Creek Invite

Taking home the Silver Creek Invitational trophy in girls’ soccer has become commonplace for the Corydon Central Lady Panthers. For the fourth time in six years, and third in a row, Corydon Central won the four-team invitational Saturday.
To take home the championship, Corydon Central had to defeat rival North Harrison. The Lady Panthers used a pair of Aly Chambers goals, along with one from Alexis Edwards, to defeat the Lady Cats 3-2.
North Harrison’s Kaitlyn Butler netted two goals.
Edwards scored the opening goal, the first of her career, when she got a through ball from Sindey Pickman to net a 15-yard shot.
After North Harrison tied the game, Corydon Central came back with Pickman connecting with Chambers with a pass that she buried in the right corner of the goal.
The best goal of the day, according to coach Kyle Jones, was the game-winner. Jordan Dagenhart was moving from the left side of the field toward the middle and got a shot off that hit the crossbar. The rebound went the direction of Chambers, who lunged forward to score with a header.
In the opening round, Corydon Central’s Kaitlin Salomon and Pickman scored while the Lady Panthers defense held Silver Creek scoreless. Salomon’s goal, a 30-yard shot, came from a square pass from Dani Uesseler. The shot dropped under the crossbar and over the keeper’s hands. Scoring from a counterattack, Pickman took the ball from the right side and into the penalty box before striking a shot at the far post.
Corydon Central got off 20 shots against the Lady Dragons.
North Harrison, meanwhile, defeated Switzerland County 1-0 behind a goal by Shelby Austin.
Consolation honors went to Silver Creek, which defeated Switzerland County 2-0.
A rematch of sorts between North Harrison and Corydon Central takes place tomorrow (Thursday) when the Lady Panthers visit Ramsey at 6 p.m.
