XC season underway at Hokum Karem

The cross country season began Aug. 21 when a trio of Harrison County schools were part of the four-team Corydon Central Hokum Karem race at Hayswood Nature Reserve west of Corydon.
North Harrison came away with the top team honors on the boys’ and girls’ side, along with the best duos.
In the boys’ race, North Harrison’s team of Daniel Fleace and Jacob Faith completed the course in 32:25. They held on for the win, outlasting fellow teammates Curtis Wetzel and Andrew Robertson, who ran in 32:51.
Providence’s team of Collin Rawium and Lincoln Ottensbacy (34:09) finished third, followed by North Harrison’s Collier Smith and Austin Powell (34:13) and Lanesville’s Gabe Sronce and David Blank (34:55).
The top pair from Corydon Central was Jake Pitts and Jonathan Leaf, crossing the line in sixth place with a time of 36:36.
On the girls’ side, North Harrison took first place as the lone team to score points.
The Lady Cats also had the top finishers in Ashton Bosler and Stevi Burns, taking top honors with a time of 40:23. Bosler is coming off an appearance at the state meet last year.
Taking second-place honors were Lanesville’s Bailey Kaake and Elise Lawson, running in a time of 43:23. North Harrison took third with Natalie Hollensead and Lexy Terrell (43:29).
Corydon Central’s top team was Brianna Norris and Kelcie Byrd, who completed the event in 46:00.
