Doris C. Garrett

Doris Cunningham Garrett, 90, died Wednesday, Aug. 7, 2013, in Union City, Tenn.
Born Sept. 21, 1922, near Hornbeak, Tenn., she was the daughter of the late Mose and Zula Cunningham.
She graduated from Union City High School in 1940 and, in 1942, married Marion L. Garrett. After Marion’s ordination, they lived in Pleasant Grove, Iowa, Fresno, Calif., Maryville, Tenn., and Vevay, Ind., before settling in Corydon, Ind., in 1966. Doris attended Indiana University Southeast, earning a B.A. and M.A. in education and taught at St. Joseph’s Elementary School in Corydon for 20 years.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Marshall Cunningham.
Survivors include her husband, the Rev. Marion L. Garrett of Union City, Tenn.; two sons, David and John; a sister, Sarah; four brothers, William, George, Donald and Daniel Cunningham; six grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Viewing: Wednesday, Aug. 14, from 5 to 8 p.m. at White-Ranson Funeral Home in Union City.
Funeral: Thursday, Aug. 15, at 11 a.m. at Union City Cumberland Presbyterian Church with interment at Obion County Memorial Gardens.
