Uplands Wine Trail adds 10th winery
The Indiana Uplands Wine Trail has expanded to 10 wineries with the addition of the Owen Valley Winery of Spencer. Now in its 10th year, the Uplands Wine Trail, Indiana’s first wine trail, reaches from Bloomington on the north to the Interstate 64 corridor on the south.
Owen Valley Winery joins the wine trail on the heels of the creation of the new Indiana Uplands American Viticultural Area. Owen Valley’s vineyards are located by their country tasting room and winery at 491 Timber Ridge Road in Spencer. A range of wines are vinted at Owen Valley, including estate-grown Steuben blush and Traminette as well as fruit wines such as Persimmon and Strawberry and dry offerings, including Chardonnay and Syrah.
A second Owen Valley tasting room is located in the restored Tivoli Theater in Spencer. Both tasting rooms are open to the public Wednesday through Sunday. More details about Owen Valley Winery can be found online at www.owenvalleywinery.com.
The Indiana Uplands Wine Trail passport for the 2013-14 season, which begins this month, will include Owen Valley Winery. Visitors completing the trail will receive a 10th anniversary Wine Trail print which includes the new AVA map.
Owen Valley’s first event as a member of the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail will be participation in the Uncork the Uplands event Saturday at the Bloomington Convention Center. All 10 wineries and their wines will be featured with artisan foods and fare from regional restaurants. A chef cook-off, wine cocktails, winemaker speeches, entertainment and silent auction will round out the evening along with an optional vineyard tour at Creekbend Vineyard in the afternoon.
Owen Valley joins the other nine wineries on the Indiana Uplands Wine Trail: Best Vineyards Winery and Turtle Run Winery in Harrison County, as well as Brown County, Butler, Carousel, French Lick, Huber, Oliver and Winzerwald.
