Helene E. Christie

Helene Ebel Christie, 78, Depauw, formerly of Warren, N.J., and Roanoke, Ind., died Sunday, June 9, 2013, at her home from lung and brain cancer.
Born Feb. 20, 1935, in Orange, N.J., she was the daughter of the late John and Hedwig Hollborn Ebel.
She graduated in 1957 from Milburn (N.J.) High School, where she was captain of the cheerleading squad her senior year, and earned a B.S. degree in 1959 from The Upsala-Mountainside Hospital Nursing Program. She worked for a brief time as a nurse at Overlook Hospital in Summit, N.J., and then as a stewardess with United Airlines. She also served on the Warren Township (N.J.) Election Board for about 10 years and the Harrison County Election Board for about 35 years, and was active with the Unity Chapel United Methodist Church’s Mission Committee, Quilters and Crafters and the Methodist Women’s group and the Extension Homemakers Association, serving as treasurer of the Depauw Homemakers Club for at least 20 years and was awarded the club’s 2014-15 Presidential Pin Award.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Samuel H. Christie III; a son, Samuel H. Christie IV of Cary, N.C.; two daughters, Sharon Helene Manwaring and Susan Heather Haun, both of Depauw; and seven grandchildren.
Visitation: Thursday, June 13, from 1 to 2:30 p.m. at Swarens Funeral Home in Ramsey with interment at 3 p.m. at Woods Chapel Cemetery near Ramsey.
Memorial service/celebration of life: Thursday, June 13, at 3:30 p.m. in the Family Life Center of Unity Chapel United Methodist Church south of Ramsey.
