Celesta R. Smith, 86, New Middletown, died Tuesday, June 4, 2013, at Harrison County Hospital in Corydon.
Born Dec. 18, 1926, in Harrison County, she was the daughter of the late Owen and Clora Fletcher McPhillips.
She was a homemaker, a former employee of the Indiana Ammunition Plant in Charlestown, a charter member of the Eagles Ladies Auxiliary 2794, a past madam president, American Legion Auxiliary 492 and New Middletown Homemakers Club, a former 4-H leader, a Democrat chairperson and a former member of the Lions Club. She also trained under Mrs. O’Grady as a nurse’s aid when Harrison County Hospital first opened.
Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Joyce (George) Smith.
Survivors include four daughters, Rosemary Bullerdick of Corydon, Jacqulyn Smith of Omaha, Neb., Rhonda Georgeann Wiseman of New Middletown and Celesta Joyce Smith of Fort Wayne; six grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Thursday, June 6, from 5 to 8 p.m., Friday, June 8, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., with a rosary at 6 and an Eagles Auxiliary rites at 7:30, and Saturday, June 9, from 8 to 10 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral Mass: Saturday, June 8, at 11 a.m. at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church in New Middletown with burial in the church cemetery.
