Shepherd 3rd at SAC

Lanesville’s Jordan Shepherd finished six strokes off from the top spot Saturday at the Southern Athletic Conference Championship at Champions Pointe Golf Course.
Earning the third-place spot in the SAC, Shepherd carded a 14-over par 86 for the Eagles.
‘Jordan turned in the lowest (Lanesville) score in my seven years at conference,’ Lanesville coach Dane Carter said. ‘Earlier in the year, we changed his grip and he has been striking the ball better; however, Jordan has been working hard this year at getting his putting count down and that was the biggest reason for his low score.’
A pair of birdies highlighted Shepherd’s round. He recorded one on the par-5 sixth hole and the other on the par-3 15th. He also had four consecutive pars on holes nine through 12.
‘We also talked before conference about not having a blow-up hole, and he was able to do that,’ Carter said of Shepherd’s 18-hole performance.
Taking the top overall individual spot was Crothersville’s Brian Money with an 8-over par 80. Henryville’s Luke Davidson was second with an 83.
The overall team title was a tight battle between a trio of teams. Separated by one stroke each, Henryville was the top team with a 372, Crothersville second with a 373 and Borden had a 374.
Lanesville settled for fourth with a 392.
Daniel Cox had the second best score for Lanesville, shooting a 95. He also birdied the par-3 15th hole while carding three pars.
Also scoring for the Eagles were Harrison Wells (100), Joe Ferree (111) and Cody Petty (117).
South Central finished behind Lanesville with a 426, led by Henry Hentrup.
Recording one par, Hentrup shot a 47 on the front nine, leading to his round of 97. Rebels golfers Sutton Day and Brayden Stopinski turned in 107s, while Craig Hess had a 115.
Shepherd earned All-SAC honors along with Money, Davidson, T.J. Fraley, Tony Wagoner III and Kamden Hurst.
Lanesville and South Central now turn their attention to the Providence Sectional, on June 3 (8 a.m.) at Covered Bridge.
