Boys’ SAC Meet
South Central finished behind Borden with a score of 174-115 while Lanesville managed 28 points.
A big portion of South Central points came through Kendall. The senior was far and away the best in the long jump. Popping off the board, his second jump was his best, landing at 19 feet, 11-3/4 inches.
‘Unfortunately, I scratched on my last jump, but I’m nursing a fat ankle right now,’ Kendall said. ‘Looking at how I started my career as a freshman, barely jumping 17 feet, and looking now, jumping nearly 20 feet as a senior, it feels good. The hard work really pays off.’
Teammate Aiden Romero finished second behind Kendall in the long jump, his best mark at 19-3-1/4.
Kendall came back Thursday in the running events to place second in the 100-meter dash then be part of two second-place relay efforts.
In the 100, Kendall ran identical times of 12.20 seconds in the prelim and final but wasn’t able to catch Borden’s Brady Knight.
Sticking with sprints, Kendall and Romero, along with Jordan Sullivan and Logan Carter, placed second in the 400 relay. Their time of 47.84 seconds was a half second behind Borden, which swept all three relays. South Central’s team of Brandon Huda, Kendall, Romero and Carter was second in the 1,600 relay (3:47.42).
‘I’m going to ice, but mainly work on exploding in the 100 dash,’ Kendall said of what he’ll focus on before Thursday’s sectional meet.
Not only was Romero runner-up in the long jump, he also took second in the 200. Finishing behind Knight, Romero completed the race in 25.04.
Four competitors tied for the top spot in the high jump. Goodwin and Sullivan represented the Rebels, with both clearing 5-10 as did Crothersville’s Ean Lakins and New Washington’s Ian Hughes. Goodwin also finished second in the 800 (2:13.5).
