Jessie E. Tomes Sr., 73, Corydon, died Tuesday, May 7, 2013, at his home.
Born Nov. 18, 1939, in Edmonson County, Ky., he was the son of Myrtle V. Sanders Tomes of Georgetown and the late Dewey E. Tomes.
He was a retired truck driver, a supply pastor for Riddle United Methodist Church and a member of First Capital Christian Church in Corydon and Indiana Farm Bureau.
Besides his father, he was preceded in death by a daughter, DeAndrea Lynn Tomes, and a brother, Billy Ray Tomes.
Survivors in addition to his mother include his wife, Sallie Jo Tomes; three sons, Scott and Jessie E. Tomes Jr., both of New Albany, and Donald D. Stallings of Jeffersonville; three daughters, Linneau George of Louisville, Rhonda Zink of New Albany and Tammy Sales of Lake Hills, Texas; five brothers, Leroy Tomes of Lanesville, James Tomes of Georgetown, Larry Tomes of Louisville, Roger Tomes of Indianapolis and Ronnie Tomes of Clarksville; five sisters, Judy Taylor of Corydon, Glenna Toliver of Madison, Sherry Richmond of Garland, Texas, and Cathy and Laura Tomes, both of Georgetown; nine grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren.
Visitation: Thursday, May 9, from 2 to 8 p.m. and Friday, May 10, after 9 a.m. at Gehlbach & Royse Funeral Home in Corydon.
Funeral: Friday, May 10, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with burial in Wolfe Cemetery in Georgetown.
The family suggests memorial gifts to the family for burial expenses.
