NHHS stages life cabaret

The North Harrison High School Drama Club will wrap up its spring production, ‘The Pretty Fast Life: A Cabaret About Growing Up,’ this weekend. Performances times are 7 p.m. Friday and 2:30 p.m. Sunday.
Tickets, which must be purchased at the door, are $7 for adults, $6 for students and seniors, $4 for children ages 6 through 11 and free for children 5 and younger. Patrons are encouraged to arrive 30 minutes prior to show time to assure they get seats.
Cabaret shows have evolved over time and consist of artist renditions of music, monologues, dance numbers and more, all centered on a certain theme. The NHHS Drama Club’s cabaret takes a look at the ups and downs of growing up, including universal issues like falling in love, dealing with enemies and fighting with parents, as well as more timely issues like those difficult Edgar Allan Poe tests, declaring one’s love on Facebook and dealing with a messed-up world.
Each cast member will portray a teenager stereotype and take audience members down memory lane through a variety of musical selections, from Elton John to Bon Jovi to Broadway to FUN to Carrie Underwood and more, as well as through monologues, video clips, slide-shows and more.
‘This non-traditional musical will be unlike anything seen on the NHHS stage in a while and is guaranteed to get the audience tapping their feet and talking about that time the car broke down on their first date, that time they went to the state championship or the time they embarrassed themselves in front of that cute kid in math class,’ Stephanie Richardson, Drama Club sponsor, said. ‘Join us in taking a look at this pretty fast life, before you miss it.’
Cast members include Chace Avery, Casey Bohnert, Brooklynn Bruner, Trevor Clifton, Elizabeth Collins, Hannah Elliott, Josh French, William George, Kiersten Hoehn, Seth Houglan, Mason Keeling, Izzy Peak, Sarah Rhodes, Shelby Shaw, Lindsey Smith and Hollie Yocum.
Crew members are Jessica Scharrer, pianist; Zac Jenkins, sound technician; Rachel Bacher, light board; Michael Weston, spot light; Justin Davis, stage tech; Madison Eve, projector tech; Brooklyn Sanders, Krysta Braiman, Amber Bond, Makaela O’Connor, Julia Witt, Emma Book and Lily Ley, costume and makeup; Cheyenne Hill, stage manager; and Madison Arvin, Alissa Knight, Kyndyl Osborne and Emily Schroeder, stage crew.
‘I’m really proud of this production and the students involved,’ Richardson said. ‘Putting together a cabaret has been an interesting experiment from a director’s standpoint, but I think audiences will enjoy watching NHHS theatre do something a little different. It’s not often you go to the theatre and you are treated with such a variety as this show will provide. ‘The Pretty Fast Life’ has proven to be a very good challenge for our actors as they work with many musical numbers and monologues, while the show is also very demanding of our crew members as they work to incorporate videos, PowerPoint presentations, multiple costume changes and many small props into the show.
‘I couldn’t be prouder to be the sponsor and director of North Harrison High School’s Drama Club,’ she said.
During the show’s intermission, baked goods will be available for purchase.
